The Infrastructure Security Compliance Division (ISCD) recently announced that it had completed its 1000th CFATS Compliance Assistance Visit (CAV).

ISCD began conducting CAVs in 2007 to provide regulated, or potentially regulated facilities, with technical assistance regarding the Chemical Facility Anti-Terrorism Standards (CFATS) program. CAVs generally involve an on-site visit from one to two ISCD chemical security inspectors.

They are often scheduled to assist facilities with Chemical Security Assessment Tool (CSAT) submissions (i.e., Top-Screens, Security Vulnerability Assessments, etc.) or following a facility’s request for re-determination to verify a claim that it has made a material modification to its operations.

For information on requesting a CAV, please visit the DHS website. DHS will review and respond to each request within two weeks of receipt. You can learn more about CFATS inspections by downloading the white paper: Surviving the CFATS Site Security Plan -Tips for Inspection & Resubmission.
