Compliance means many different things, but for chemical companies, it usually refers to operational requirements that stem from catalyst regulations like REACH and GHS. With OSHA's announcement to evaluate GHS/CLP for US manufacturers, US chemical companies in particular must be prepared to address and meet new compliance requirements across their supply chains-from procurement to manufacturing to distribution.

Presenters

Mark Blainey, Senior Regulatory Analyst, IHS

Blainey has been involved in EU Chemicals legislation for over 13 years and is considered one of the foremost authorities on REACH legislation. He is widely published and his work experience includes the development of REACH from its inception to agreement, as well as the myriad of guidance documents, reviews of the REACH Annexes and contributions to the European Commission’s CLP (Classification, Labelling and Packaging) Regulation proposal.

Prior to joining Atrion, Blainey served as Director at the Policy Analysis and Chemical Evaluation (PACE) SPRL, a consultancy expert in EU chemical policy. He has held the positions of Policy Coordinator (REACH) and Policy Officer with the European Commission and has served as Senior Executive Officer and Her Majesties Inspector of Health and Safety at the Health and Safety Executive.

Blainey earned his BSc Biochemistry with toxicology from Surrey University and a Post Graduate diploma in Occupational Health and Safety from the Aston Business School. He also holds an MSc in Environmental Toxicology from the University of Central Lancashire.

Gilbert Garcia, Director, Process Channels, Edgewater Fullscope

Gilbert (Gil) Garcia is the director of process channels for Edgewater Fullscope, the 2010 Microsoft Dynamics Manufacturing Partner of the Year.

He has spent over 30 years helping manufacturers select the right enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution for their industries, including six years of experience with discrete manufacturing solutions, and 24 years of experience with process manufacturing ones, including chemicals. He has served as a pre-sales and post-sales consultant for process ERP, supply chain, plant maintenance, total quality management (TQM), product lifecycle management (PLM)and other solutions.
Mr. Garcia has been published in several trade publications and is a regular speaker at manufacturing industry conferences and events.
